Dr Jim Brown took up the 'Arch to Arc' triathalon challenge in 2012 for Lungs for Living. Jim and his two team mates completed the journey in a relay: a 90 mile run from London's Marble Arch to Dover, followed by a 22 mile swim across the English Channel and then a 180 mile cycle to Paris. Following 54 hours without sleep, they toasted their success with Champagne at the Arc de Triomphe before heading back to London.
The trio trained long and hard for the ultra-triathalon, overcoming huge hurdles en route. Jim said "Preparing to swim the channel was the most daunting part of the challenge; a year ago I couldn't swim two lengths of a 50 metre pool without stopping. It was hard work getting to the stage where I could swim 10k without a break but the chilly hours spent sea training in February and March paid off!"
